Babar and Haynes named ICC Players of the Month

LAHORE (Reuters) – Pakistani skipper Babar Azam and Australia’s Rachael Haynes have been named ICC Players and Players of the Month for March respectively, the International Cricket Council announced on Monday.

“Babar wins the men’s award after a number of thrilling batting displays in Pakistan’s multi-format series against Australia. Amassing 390 runs in the thrilling Test series, his supreme contribution was evidenced by his innings record of 196 in the second test, salvaging a draw for his team against all odds on the final day in Karachi.At the forefront of his team’s batting team, his exploits in the ODI battles that have took place in March also cemented his claim as international cricket’s standout player during the month.Scores of 57 and 114 – the latter of which helped his side chase down a towering set of 349 by Australia, saw him as a constant threat to an otherwise formidable bowling offense,” the ICC said in a press release.

“Babar received the award ahead of fellow nominees Kraigg Brathwaite (West Indies) and Pat Cummins (Australia), and in doing so became the first player to win the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award twice, after to have been crowned in April 2021.”

The ICC added: “Rachael Haynes is celebrating her ICC Player of the Month award after a tremendous display of displays on the road to Australia’s seventh ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup trophy. Scoring a priceless 429 runs in eight matches averaging 61.28, his extraordinary exploits at the top of the leaderboard proved crucial to his side’s unbeaten run to the final, where they then overcame England to cap a tournament exciting.
