ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi –
Bauchi State Assembly Speaker Abubakar Suleiman eventually dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
He made this known during a Ramadan fast-breaking (Iftar) dinner hosted by Governor Bala Mohammed, held at Bauchi Government House late Saturday evening and attended by stakeholders from the PDPs of Ningi, Toro, Warji and Dass State LGAs.
Hon. Sulaiman, who is also the Speaker of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislative Assemblies of Nigeria, in a short video clip while speaking about the event, was heard introducing the Chairman of the PDP in the State, Hamza Akuyam, in as “president of our great party”. , the PDP. He added that: “The Governor said there is a newlywed in the PDP, there is no lie about that.”
He went on to say, “I know there was speculation, people said he decamped to the PDP,” others said, “no, he didn’t decamp.” But today, in this place, I want to announce with joy that I am now a member of the PDP.
According to him, his decision to join the PDP in the state was a result of Governor Mohammed’s exemplary leadership style and commitment to transforming the state.
He also commended the Governor for his ability to ensure smooth working relations with the State Assembly despite party differences, which resulted in the formulation and implementation of policies and programs aimed at ensuring the development of the state.
The president’s defection ended months of speculation across the state that although he was publicly a member of the APC, he operated as a member of the PDP.
Our correspondent reports that the Bauchi State Assembly, since its inauguration in June 2019, had 22 members in the APC, eight in the PDP while the New Nigeria People’s Party had one.
But with this development, the APC currently has 16 members while the PDP has 15.
