Bed and mattress manufacturer, Sleepeezee, has announced Romney Marsh Laines as a new supplier of locally sourced premium wool.
All Sleepeezee mattresses containing wool will now use the best Romney Marsh wool. Founded in 2018, Romney Marsh Wools is owned and run by Kristina and Paul Boulden and is based on their family farm in Romney Marsh, Kent.
“For us, Sleepeezee was a perfect collaboration because it’s a local business with traditional family values at its core,” comments Kristina Boulden, co-owner of Romney Marsh Wools. We too share the belief in the well-being of the planet and our people. , in sourcing materials from sustainable suppliers, and that no waste from our process goes to landfill. We pursue quality and great value in everything we do, and sustainability is at the forefront of both of our businesses.”
As a six generation farm, Kristina and Paul currently have approximately 1200 Romney ewes in their flock along with 150 Merino ewes. Romney Marsh Wools products are made by top British manufacturers who are experts in their field. As well as supporting local businesses like Sleepeezee, Romney Marsh Wools sells a range of homewares, clothing and toiletries, as well as raw wool, fleece and yarn in a range of colours.
The collaboration between the wool manufacturer and Sleepeezee focuses on sustainability and supporting local businesses. The quality of materials and craftsmanship is what makes Sleepeezee products so special, which is why Romney wool is the perfect match. Recognized as a purebred breed in England since 1896, Romney sheep provide natural, durable, half-sheen wool of excellent quality and base.
Romney wool is extremely breathable and warm thanks to its crimped wool fibres. It also resists moisture and helps keep mattresses dry, preventing the development of mold, mildew and unwanted odors.
At the same time, wool is naturally fire resistant due to its high water and nitrogen content, free of toxic chemicals and easy to clean. Romney wool is extremely durable and long lasting due to the strength of the fibers which can be bent over themselves over 20,000 times without breaking.
Sleepeezee is aware of its global impact. Steve Warren, Managing Director of Sleepeezee comments: “As a carbon neutral company since 2017, Sleepeezee strives to be sustainable in everything we do. From offsetting our carbon emissions to planting trees in our community, we have offset a total of 1,643 tonnes of CO2 in our factory since 2017. We also aim to source sustainable materials that align with our business values and the needs of our customers, which is why investing in locally sourced wool from Romney Marsh is so important.”
Romney Marsh Wools supports Sleepeezee’s sustainability goals as a product and business. The biodegradability of Romney wool does not contribute to growing waste pollution, unlike other synthetic materials which can take years to decompose and die.
“Our wool is sourced, produced and distributed locally, giving it low embodied energy due to limited transportation miles. We do not use synthetic dyes or harmful products on our wool and, where possible possible, we reuse and recycle all of our packaging and cardboard waste,” Kristina said.
