The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has blamed Governor Nasir El-Rufai for the killings and kidnappings that rocked Kaduna State.

The group said the fact that the governor of Kaduna paid off murderous Fulani herders a few years ago is the cause of the current carnage the north is witnessing.

CAN was reacting to a statement by El-Rufai threatening to hire foreign mercenaries to help tackle insecurity in the state.

El-Rufai reportedly made the statements on Friday as he spoke with reporters shortly after briefing President Muhammadu Buhari on recent attacks and killings in Kaduna State, including the attack on the international airport as well as the explosion of a bomb on Monday on the Abuja-Kaduna train. .

Former Senate Speaker and presidential candidate Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki met with the young national, zonal and state leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday.

He disclosed that he met with the national youth leader of the PDP, six zonal youth leaders and all 36 state youth leaders.

Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka has criticized the government led by Muhammadu Buhari for ‘appointing’ Senator Iyiola Omisore as the new national secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement Saturday titled “Perhaps closed cases should stay closed?” Soyinka said Omisore is the prime suspect in the murder of a former Federation attorney general and justice minister, Chief Bola Ige.

Recall that Ige, also ex-Governor of former Oyo State, was assassinated by unidentified gunmen at his home in Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State on December 23, 2001.

According to Soyinka, the appointment of Omisore, a former deputy governor of Osun State, as a cadre of the ruling APC would jeopardize investigations into Ige’s death.

Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi has joined the 2023 presidential race.

Although the former Rivers State governor has not officially declared his intention, a pamphlet publicizing his aspiration was released over the weekend.

The ruling party is likely to give his presidential ticket to a southerner despite Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello’s interest in the race.

Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello on Saturday officially declared his intention to run for the 2023 presidential election.

Bello made the statement in Abuja to end speculation about his presidential ambition.

The likes of Senator Jonathan Zwingina, Femi Fani-Kayode and several others were in attendance.

Zwingina, while speaking at the event, described Bello as a detribalized Nigerian, who ruled his state with appointees from other states.

Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has threatened to bring in foreign mercenaries to fight the terrorist bandits if the Federal Government of Nigeria refuses to do the necessary.

According to him, the terrorists must be dealt with with a stronger force than what is available at the moment.

The Governor pointed out that it is evident that the terrorist bandits are becoming bolder day by day with each unchallenged attack they successfully launch and even become confident of attacking the army.

He lamented why security agencies have not responded to calls for the forests where these bandits are hiding to be bombed and destroyed.

A former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, on Saturday expressed optimism that the Peoples Democratic Party would field a candidate who would save Nigeria from its current predicament.

Obi, while speaking after receiving expression of interest and nomination forms presented to him by a group of professionals at his residence in Onitsha, revealed that the main opposition party was already discussing the nomination of an acceptable candidate in 2023.

Some of the party’s presidential aspirants met with stakeholders in various states and considered a consensus candidate.

Some party stakeholders believe a consensus candidate could reduce tension in the party ahead of its primaries.

Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has released the identities of those responsible for Monday’s despicable attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train in which many were killed, some injured and many others abducted.

The daring attack that sent shock waves down the backs of Nigerians was carried out jointly by members of Boko Haram and terrorist bandits, the governor has revealed.

He made the revelation on Friday while speaking with reporters shortly after briefing President Muhammadu Buhari on the security situation in Kaduna State as well as recent attacks in the state, Naija News reports.

Governor El-Rufai also confirmed that the terrorists have started contacting some of the family members of those they abducted, but ruled out the possibility of his government paying a ransom to secure their release.

Nollywood veteran, Pete Edochie has said presidential aspirants like Bola Ahmed Tinubu cannot become president of Nigeria because they are too old.

Edochie shared his thoughts while speaking with BBC Igbo. He said it was high time for the former governor to step down as he has been in power for a long time.

He also condemned the marginalization of the Igbos and their failure to produce a president since the country achieved democracy.

He explained that Tinubu needed to leave power so that stronger and healthier young people could take over and move the country forward.

The report further states that the 45-year-old came to the attention of counter-terrorism police in 2019 after some people reported him for targeting a particular ethnic group.

Shoyemi’s posts that incited violence against a particular tribe were a potential violation of the law and an investigation has been launched
