President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday confirmed the appointment of Deputy Corps Marshal, Finance and Accounts, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dauda Biu as Acting Corps Marshal.

Biu’s appointment became necessary after Boboye Oyeyemi was retired from service on July 24.

Oyeyemi, who spoke at the handover held at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday, received praise for laying a good foundation and leaving a legacy in his tenure.

Confirming President Buhari’s consent to the latest appointment, Oyeyemi said the official was given the post of Acting CM effective July 24.

In a statement from the Corps Public Education Officer, Deputy Corps Marshal Bisi Kazeem, Oyeyemi wished Biu a successful tenure as he takes office.

Terrorists freed three of the victims of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack barely a day after releasing a disturbing video, torturing some of them.

Reports reaching Naija News at present confirmed that a woman and two men were released and reunited with their family members today.

It has not yet been determined whether a ransom was paid before their release. However, Daily Trust quoted popular Kaduna-based publisher Tukur Mamu as saying that the three victims had regained their freedom.

“Yes, three victims have been released, a woman and two men. But remember that I am not part of the negotiation that led to their freedom,” Mamu told the news platform.

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, was discharged from Duchess International Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos on Monday after undergoing successful surgery and rehabilitation.

Recall that Osinbajo was operated on at the hospital on July 16, 2022.

The vice president’s media assistant, Laolu Akande, in a statement on Monday, said his principal underwent corrective surgery without any complications.

Osinbajo in the statement expressed his gratitude to the clinical and auxiliary staff of the hospital led by its Director General, Dr. Tokunbo Shitta-Bey and Medical Director, Dr. Adedoyin Dosunmu-Ogunbi for their professionalism and quality of care.

Armed terrorists reportedly attacked and injured Guards Brigade soldiers who have a mandate to protest against President Muhammadu Buhari.

It was established that soldiers from the 7th Guards Battalion were on routine patrol along the Kubwa – Bwari road when they were ambushed by suspected terrorists in the national capital.

The attack comes just 24 hours after terrorists threatened to kidnap President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Nasir El-Rufai from Kaduna State, Naija News reports.

The development is said to have caused panic among many residents of Abuja.

The terrorists were reportedly heading towards the Nigerian law school in Bwari when they clashed with troops, leading to an exchange of gunfire in which three soldiers were injured.

According to one of the military sources cited by The Nation, the three soldiers who were injured in the attack were evacuated to hospital for treatment.

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom said on Monday that there was no government in place in Nigeria and that the people around President Muhammadu Buhari were criminals.

Ortom, who was reacting to a video posted on social media where bandits whipped victims of Kaduna-bound train attacks and threatened to kidnap Kaduna State President and Governor Nasir El-Rufai. said Nigerians were now exposed to Afghan treatment.

The Federal Ministry of Education’s Director of Press, Mr. Ben Goong, confirmed the directive to journalists in Abuja on Monday.

He explained that the directive became necessary due to the growing insecurity in the region which has become a threat to the well-being of the students.

Naija News understands that some of the FGCs had been asked to vacate the school premises on July 20, while others will close on July 26.

The families of the victims of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack on Monday protested against the prolonged stay of their loved ones in the terrorists’ den.

Naija News earlier reported that some of the relatives accused the Federal Government and the Nigerian Army of sabotaging their efforts to rescue their family members.

Relatives of the victims said this in response to a video released by the terrorists over the weekend showing the male victims being whipped mercilessly.

Following the development, the families of the captives demonstrated outside the Ministry of Transport on Monday to protest the government’s failure to rescue their loved ones.

The families, who had been at the door of the ministry since 6 a.m., refused entry to the staff and held up signs to express their demands.

According to the relatives of the victims, they were at the ministry responsible for the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), to express their frustration at the detention of the people in captivity.

African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has accused Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu of leaking government documents.

Sowore said this during a chat with Arise Television on Monday while responding to Atiku’s remark against him in an interview last Friday.

Recall that Atiku complained on Wednesday of the frequent collapses of the national electricity grid.

In a quick response, Sowore alleged that Atiku and former President Olusegun Obasanjo caused the collapse of the national power grid when they invested $16 billion to bring darkness to Nigeria.

Reacting to Sowore’s claim, Atiku during the Arise Tv interview claimed that the AAC presidential candidate lives outside Nigeria and only comes after four years to run for office, adding that he knows nothing about the electricity sector.

However, responding to Atiku’s remarks on Monday, Sowore said that when Garba Shehu was a media aide to the former vice president, he used to receive documents to counter Atiku’s manager Obasanjo.
